COVID-19 UPDATE 4/27/2020
Dear clients of D’Adamo Veterinary Hospital:
We are thrilled to report that all of our staff and their families are currently healthy and have been for several days now! We hope that all of you are also staying well.
This means that we can resume partial operations that are consistent with Governor Whitmer’s executive orders pertaining to veterinary medicine.
We are allowed to see patients with life-threatening medical emergencies, serious pain issues, euthanasias, and patients who are due for vaccines for diseases that can affect humans. Specifically, vaccine appointments can be scheduled for puppies/kittens and patients who are due (or overdue) for rabies and leptospirosis vaccines.
We will still be using the “curbside” protocol where we will come out to the parking lot to get your pets. We will take them inside where we will examine and treat them while you wait in your car. We will communicate with you over the phone during the visit. Please be aware that this protocol does take longer for each visit, so we will have fewer appointments available than we would have under normal circumstances.
We will also have a limited number of “Telemedicine” appointments for certain nonemergency conditions. This involves audio and video as part of the information gathering and examination processes. The types of cases that can potentially be handled through telemedicine are limping patients, skin issues, eye problems, ear problems, diarrhea without other signs of illness, and suspected urinary tract infections. Some of these medical problems might require you to bring in a sample to our office in order to help make an accurate diagnosis. The procedure for dropping samples off will be discussed with you during the telemedicine appointment. The cost of the telemedicine consultation is $35.
Because heartworm testing does not meet the criteria for emergency care, we are not currently able to schedule visits for your dog’s heartworm blood test. We do, however, recommend that you continue your pet’s heartworm medication. If you are running low, we are currently refilling heartworm preventative medications even if your pet’s heartworm test is overdue. Please call our office and we will arrange for you to pick up your pets’ medication from our office in a “contactless” fashion.
We appreciate your understanding during these stressful and constantly-changing circumstances. We expect these protocols to stay in place as long as Governor Whitmer’s orders remain in place. Please understand that these procedures may need to be modified again in the coming weeks as circumstances dictate.
Please stay at home as much as possible and stay safe!
